About Us

One of the Best Hotels in
Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka

Oruwa is a fusion of several stories bound by a burning passion for Sri Lanka and nature. At the center of our existence is the local community we work with. Adjacent to the image of our beautiful hotel, is an image of hardworking men and women who aspire to preserve the richness of Sri Lankan wildlife. These men and women are among the engineers of our will and capacity to see Pottuvil open to the world. They are our proudest possession, and we perpetually configure our focus around honouring them for their dedication to the ecosystem and to the beautification of the surrounding.

At Oruwa we operate on a voltage of inspiration and aspiration. We aspire to compete with what is truly, the most potent contestation of the Hospitality Industry and the Sri Lankan economy, by successfully attracting the tourism Sri Lanka requires to regain its pre-covid stability. In doing so, we endeavour to engage the local communities through lagoon tours and exclusive hospitality training, which would only augment the opportunities for them. Therefore, on behalf of the entire team at Oruwa, as well as the wonderful nation we operate in, we implore you to visit Sri Lanka!

Activities

Lagoon Safari

1km away from Arugam Bay Bridge, you will find a hidden gold mine for wildlife: the Arugumbay Lagoon. You will get to cruise along the lagoon, which is 200 acres in size, in either a boat or a canoe and the whole safari will last about 1-1 ½ hours. The lagoon is one of the most pristine places on the island; the murky greenish-brown water looks misleadingly deep when in fact it is actually quite shallow, but the dark water is beautiful as it becomes a mirror of sorts to the clear blue skies.

The Lagoon’s Highlighting Features

It is a common sight to see mischievous Sri Lanka Macaque Monkeys jumping from tree to tree. Another relatively common sight is birds that move in flocks and tease you to catch them, this is particularly sight during the time of sunrise.

But the best-kept secret about the lagoon is that it is a fantastic place to spot elephants; many elephants come here in the evening as a way to cool off and you can watch them frolic in the water from a safe distance, with the fragrance of the lotus blooms all around.

Cycling

Cycling is a low impact aerobic exercise that offers a wealth of benefits. It also varies in intensity, so it’s suitable for all levels. You can cycle as a mode of transportation, for casual activity, or as an intense, competitive endeavor.

Cycling is a wonderful workout that keeps you active. It can help shape a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally.

At Oruwa, we are considered a bike friendly hotel, with insights on the best routes to bike around Arugumbay or take a longer adventure. Come lets rent a bike at our property or come biking to our property.

Kumana National Park Safari

Authentic wildlife safari experience in a less visited national park in Sri Lanka. Located in the southeast corner of Sri Lanka, the 18,149 hectares Kumana National Park is a well-known eco-tourism attraction and bird sanctuary where a multitude of birds breed and roost. Kumana National Park is the eastern sector of Yala National Park. One of the most significant features of the Kumana National Park is the ‘Kumana Villu’ – a 200 hectare natural swamp lake, fed by the ‘Kumbukkan Oya’ through a half mile long narrow channel. It is at this mangrove swamp that many water birds’ nest in May and June. Regular sightings include such species of bird as pelicans, painted storks, spoonbills, white ibis, herons, egrets and little cormorants.
